LIVING THE DREAM: HOW TO MASTER WORK/LIFE BALANCE

They say life is about balance. It’s about juggling responsibilities with our selfish desires to escape, explore and remain inspired all while excelling at our professions and succeeding at every turn; well at least that’s what the system dictates.

And lucky for us, with the evolution of technology, it’s now more possible than ever to work from anywhere, master your work/life balance and to “live the dream” in some far off place. While these possibilities don’t necessarily generate the highest probabilities of success, the fact remains that with the right mindset and enough focus, living the dream is more possible than ever before.

The first part of the whole “work/life balance” thing is, well, work. While working from anywhere isn’t a challenge, doing the work can be.

Wherever you end up while out on the road, priority #1 should always be finding reliable internet at all hours of the day and night.

With a Starbucks located on just about every corner, it’s not too hard to find a remote workspace with blazing fast wifi all for the price of a cup of joe… and your favorite bag of Country Archer Jerky

After you’ve paid your dues and satisfied your responsibilities, run for the hills.

Rewarding yourself for staying on track is an important part of the equation.

Studies show that freelancers and remote employees tend to work longer hours than their in-office counterparts, so maintaining a healthy dose of inspiration and enjoying the perks of life on the road are as important as crushing that to-do list.

After you’ve mastered the art of staying on track, you’re ready for the next step in becoming a work/life balance master. For the days when you just can’t kick the adventure bug, it’s always important to keep your work tools handy to stay connected. If there’s a weekday adventure that you just can’t fathom missing out on, plow through your weekly workload the days surrounding your play-day and create some space to enjoy the perks of working remotely.

As long as you’re “connected and available” for questions or emergencies, enjoying a little mid-week fun is always possible.

Here’s where things get a little tricky and require mental fortitude and the ability to say “no”; Bringing friends into the equation. Working on the road is easier solo, but traveling solo can get old. So, if you’re ready for the challenge of tripping with friends while staying productive, establishing your work schedule and sticking to it is the only way to keep yourself from getting fired.

Make sure you’re sticking to your routines from morning to midnight while squeezing in your hang time, and all will be possible.

Last but not least is one of the most important aspects of maintaining a solid work/life balance, completely disconnecting.

While the habit of staying connected on the road is a necessity, so is tuning out and letting your mind recharge.

Go somewhere without wifi to avoid checking your Instagram or Tweeting your latest realization.

Now that you know the rules of the road, it’s time to get moving, you’ve got some exploring to do. Enjoy.
