Spring training is back and we couldn’t be more excited. Why? Because America’s pastime springs eternal hope this time of the year and has fans around the country feeling like anything is possible. After the Cubs snapped a 107-year drought without bringing home a World Series title, it seems like the positive vibes and good feels couldn’t have come back around at a more perfect time. So, in honor of Major League Baseball kicking off spring training, we thought it was the perfect time to help you strengthen your grip, on life and otherwise, and turn up the intensity with these back shredding DIY baseball pull-up grips. Time to play ball!
Total investment: ~$40
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 – Metal chain link (~$20)
- 2 – Spring clip or carabiner ($10)
- 2 – Baseball’s ($6)
- 2 – 6″ by 3/8″ eye bolts ($1.25)
- 2 – Nuts ($1.25)
- 2- Washers ($1.25)
Instructions:
Step 1 – Drill a hole in each baseball a little smaller than the diameter of the eye bolts to ensure a tight fit.
Step 2 – Screw in one bolt per ball.
Step 3 – Add a single washer and single nut to the end of the eye bolt with threading to secure the bolts to the ball.
Step 4 – To attach the grips to the pull-up bar, connect 1 chain with about 5 links to a 1 spring clip. Repeat to make 2.
Step 5 – Wrap the chain around a pull-up bar and connect the spring clip to the baseball via the eyehole bolt.
Step 6 – Start doing pull-ups. The idea here is to both strengthen your grip and your back simultaneously which might take some practice. If your grip isn’t strong enough, start with 1 pull-up as your goal and increase from there.
